Trevor Bayne Wins Daytona 500: NASCAR’s Biggest Race Gained By 20-Year-Old Rookie

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Trevor Bayne lastly made a mistake. Thankfully for him, it didn’t occur till he missed the flip pulling into Victory Lane on the Daytona 500.

The youngest driver to win the Great American Race gave the historic Wooden Brothers workforce its fifth Daytona 500 victory – its first since 1976 with David Pearson – and Bayne did it in a No. 21 Ford that was retrofitted to resemble Pearson’s famed ride.

In simply his second Dash Cup begin, the 20-12 months-previous Bayne stunned NASCAR’s greatest names with an exhilarating overtime win Sunday at Daytona Worldwide Speedway, holding off Carl Edwards after fan favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. crashed in NASCAR’s first attempt at a green-white-checkered flag finish.

“Our first 500, are you kidding me?” mentioned Bayne, who wanted directions to Victory Lane. “Wow. That is unbelievable.”

Unbelievable, indeed.

Just in the future after celebrating his twentieth birthday and leaving his teenage years behind, the aw-shucks Tennessean who shaves once per week and considers “Rugrats” his favorite TV present captured the sport’s greatest race.

When he found himself on the front, and victory simply two laps away, he never thought it could last. Bayne was content just to say he had been main at the beginning of the green-white-checkered.

“I’m slightly bit fearful that certainly one of them goes to return after me tonight,” he said. “I’m going to should sleep with one eye open. That’s why I stated I felt just a little undeserving. I’m leading, and I am saying, ‘Who can I push?’”

Bayne thought for certain Tony Stewart or another person would try and pass.
