JODY SHELLEY SIGNS WITH FLYERS — Jody Shelley is a 34-year-old veteran right wing in NHL recently signed a three-year deal worth $3.3 million with Flyers. Jody Shelley is a 6-foot-3 pound checking-line winger who will replace Aaron Asham. He speaked to media during a conference earlier. The trascript of which you can read below.

Transcript of the Jody Shelley’s conference is below:

Q: Are you looking forward to fighting Boogard six times a year?

“I so am. Absolutely.”

Q: Was this kind of a surprise move to you?

“I don’t think so. It’s a team we played a lot with New York. I wouldn’t call it a surprise.”

Q: Did Homer talk to you about your role here?

“No… we had a brief conversation, a congratulations… I told him how excited I am to be a Flyer, and that was about the extent of that. It’s a pretty busy day for him.”

Q: We haven’t had too many guys change their jerseys from Rangers to Flyers, although Blair Betts did it last season. Is it an odd thing to do that given the rivalry?

“I guess looking at it as a spectator, it’s probably hard to do. But for me, no, it’s what you do. If you go to free agency, you expect to go anywhere, and when this happens, well, you know what? I’m now a Flyer.”

Q: You had a choice in this… why Philadelphia?

“It’s a great team… you’ve got guys I hate to play against, and those are usually teams you have the most respect for. Philly’s just one of those teams that it’s just where I wanted to be… it’s where I ended up at the end of the day.”

Q: Did you look at this and think it was the best opportunity you had to win a Stanley Cup?

“I think so. When you play for a team like the San Jose Sharks, and that’s a team that’s in the playoffs – they’re not talking about making the playoffs in September, they’re talking about the Western Conference Final. And then you play for a team like New York, who missed the playoff by one point and watches their opponent go to the Final, you realize how far you are from it. So absolutely. That’s what you think about. And of course you think about family and just playing the game in a city that loves hockey.

Q: What was that like for you guys to have to skate away from that and see the Flyers go as far as they did?

“You’ve got mixed emotions. You skate away from that and you think there’s no way they’re going to make it past the first round. Then you start seeing it happen, and you see different players show up and you realize how deep they are, and you’re like wow, that team didn’t have as much respect as it should have had going into the playoffs. And you start pulling for them towards the end.”

Q: How do you see yourself fitting in with this team?

“I’m a guy that has had to earn everything that I’ve got as far as ice time, coach’s respect, coach’s trust, and I don’t expect to show up with anything other than the same thing I’ve always done, and that’s earning the coach’s trust, players’ respect, teammates’ respect, the organization’s respect and the fans’ respect. You mentioned defense… that’s one way to earn it. There’s a list of ways to earn it, and I’ll make sure I do them all and do them the best I can.”

Q: You signed for three years… you must be in good shape for the Flyers to give you that type of a contract.

“Yeah, I’m only 34. I’ve played with guys like Rob Blake, [Brad] Lukowich, guys I have watched from the first day I got to the NHL – watched them and their discipline, and how they take care of themselves and how they respect the game. I think that I’m pretty disciplined. I’m probably not in game shape right now, but I will be in a month, month and a half.”

Q: When you look at this team, what do you see?

“It’s a team that’s got everything. They’ve got big, strong players, they’ve got goal scorers. This is a team that wants to win, and management is obviously going to do whatever they think they have to do. It really looks like it’s left up to the players to bring what they’re supposed to do there, and that’s exciting. I know they have good leadership, that’s obvious. It just seems like a team that other teams probably want to be like, or when you think of a hockey team you think of the Philadelphia Flyers, and when you look down the roster and size of players and grit and how they did last year… that’s what I see, is a well-respected organization and a well-respected team.”

They played well and they played hard, this is the first win of the Blackhawks for more than 40 years. The Finals is now over and it is now time for the Blackhawks to return to their home town of Chicago, carrying of-course the Stanley Cup as their prize for their ice fans.

It is now time for celebration and tribune to this mighty team that sealed the deal with the Flyers in a convincing fashion. They will be back to Chicago by tomorrow, June 11, 2010, Friday where they will be celebrating with their fans and a victory parade will also be made to show the town that the Cup is now back to Chicago. The victory parade will start at exactly 10:30 AM so don’t you miss this celebration for all. Blackhawks Rock!
