Omar Mercado of the WC reported that a former Manila police officer took twenty five hostages in a tourist bus in the Philippines on Monday morning. The hostage situation ended after a ten-hour standoff with at least two hostages reported killed and the hostage taker shot dead.

But that was the first report. Jim Gomez of the Associated Press via Yahoo News reported that 9 were killed on hijacked tourist bus in the Philippines.

Mendoza was dismissed a year ago on charges of extortion and harassment in a drug-related case. On top of his demand for reinstatement, he also wanted to clear his name in relation to the cases he was involved with.

Mendoza boarded the bus wearing a police uniform and carrying an assault rifle. The bus was taken to a prominent landmark in Manila called the Quirino Grandstand, just a few hundred feet from the Manila Hotel.

Over the last ten hours, he has released some of the hostages that included a mother, three children, an elderly man with diabetes and photographers.

Point of Ms. Thomas, as bluntly as she said, was an acceptable platform to discuss issues that were at the heart of the Arab-Israeli conflict since the Balfour Declaration, before the formation of the State of Israel. The massive immigration of European Jews is at the heart of a dispute basis. And while Ms. Thomas’ comments related to the occupation of new Israeli settlements, the question on a broken promise on mass immigration to Palestine extends over 60 years.

Of course, reporters like Kurtz highly respected Washington Post Howard will defend the media coverage of issues relating to Israel. But similar defenses have been made of the media coverage of important issues that have led to economic collapse of 2008. Subsequent investigations in the media’s efforts to inform the public discovered that the media were appalling, ignorant and indifferent, even in their efforts to educate the public with relevant information they need to know. I suspect the same is true with regard to the Arab-Israeli conflict and especially the fate of the Palestinians.
